Finding balance is especially difficult during December. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or winter solstice (or maybe all three!), the month no doubt brings hectic schedules thanks to work parties, family functions and school concerts. The annual feasts and gift giving also mean lots of driving around looking for parking spots, and plenty of roaming through stores searching out the perfect present. So why do we do it? We all have our reasons. For some it is tradition, for others obligation, but for most of us it’s because there is something about getting together to toast family and good friends, share presents and join in a meal, that is made extra special during this most celebrated season. To help make your December easier we have compiled a 10-page gift guide, featuring unique items from local stores. We think you’ll find something special for everyone on your list. We also have a selection of nature-inspired decor items perfect for any winter table and, with advice on how to make your holidays happier, we have our first column from life coach Stephanie Staples. Stephanie’s columns will be a regular feature next year, beginning with our January issue. That’s right. Winnipeg Women and Winnipeg Men will now be available six times a year. We can’t wait to share even more stories about inspiring local people.

Speaking of inspiring women, please take some time to nominate a special woman in your life for our third annual Winnipeg’s Most Beautiful Women event. The deadline for entries is Jan. 12, 2008, and we hope to shine the light on as many hard-working, generous, loving, spirited women as we can in our May issue and at our annual gala event. Please head to winnipegwomen.net to download an entry form.

Enjoy the snow!
