In less than two years, Gibbons’ hobby has seen her create more than 600 headbands, with no two alike. “They’re very eclectic,” she says. “They have a vintage look to them.” Much of her inspiration comes from colours of the flora and fauna in the environment and outfits she sees in design magazines. “I love admiring beautiful fashions on other people. I’ll see an outfit and think, ‘Wow, I can make an amazing headband from that.’”

The Montreal-born Gibbons makes an effort to utilize recycled materials in her pieces, scouring places like Value Village and Goodwill for garments to cut up and use in her headbands and regularly hitting flea markets to find vintage jewellery. “I see a piece of jewellery and in my mind, I’m already creating the headband.”

Gibbons is also very involved in the charitable aspect of her endeavour, donating headbands to groups like Gowns for Grads and CancerCare Manitoba.
