Martha – nurse, model

You showoffs in your twenties should take full advantage of the sexy, skinny jean. This season the look is a little less painted-on, with leg a little looser around the calf, so the look is more balanced. Beverly Kinahan, the style maven behind October says this also means you can have more fun—by cuffing them or leaving them extra long.

LEFT: Pair your skinnies with another important look of the season—the boyfriend jacket. Hudson skinny jean, $245; Vero Moda shirt, $29; Kaylee Tankus jacket, $315; Colcci boots, $340 all from October.

RIGHT: True Religion jean, $285; Dom Rebel T-shirt, $90; Nanette Lepore jacket, $475; Hillberg + Berk necklace, $341; Juicy Couture bag, $425 all from Swank Boutique. Nine West shoes, $120, Town Shoes.

Say buh-bye to “mom jeans” and hello to medium rise straight legs. Contrary to popular belief, the straight leg looks great on many body types and is surprisingly slimming. Says Beverly of October: “The straight leg isn’t trendy, it’s current. So you won’t feel dated in your jeans.” Another added bonus: The forgiving fit means you’ll be comfy all day.

LEFT: 1921 straight leg jean, $169; Colcci jacket, $225; Soia & Kyo gloves, $60; Colcci shoes, $155; Matt & Nat tote, $195 all from October.

RIGHT: Joes Jeans jean, $210; Ted Baker blouse, $148; Iris vest, $223; Studio Gorgeous necklace with charms, $154; Soul Flower mother of pearl and sterling silver ring, $118; Kenneth Cole shoes, $128 all from Candie & Dolls.

Susan – Passion Parties, entertainer, teacher

In their forties, women should start looking for classic cut jeans, and darker washes to give a slimming look. With (Oprah’s favourite) Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, the key lies in the fit: They’re cut a little longer through the rise to prevent the muffin top, and have lots of control with a built in tummy control panel and stretch in the denim. According to Sue Stenson of Sue’s, women go down at least one full size in these jeans. “They will start out tight, but ease out after a while so the wearer gets more of a customized fit.,” she says. “They’re so comfortable and look amazing—everyone who buys a first pair definitely comes back for a second or third.

Not Your Daughter’s Jeans jean, $185; Kasper tunic top, $89 both from Sue’s. Just Capucci shoes, $235 from European Shoe Shop. David Dixon bag, $128, Town Shoes.

Evelyn – administrative assistant, mother of two

Denim for fiftysomethings should be all about comfort. Not Your Daughter’s Jeans are great for this—although they are fitted, with the regular rise they feel more like a  trouser. The cut of the jeans shown here  with pinstripes look dressier, and as an added bonus you’ll get an instant butt-lift with the strategically placed back pockets. “They’re the first pair of jeans I’ve ever bought, and I love them,” says Pat Richards of Chestnut Lane Boutique.

LEFT: Not Your Daughter’s Jeans pinstripe gray jean, $185; AK Anne Klein blouse, $115; AK Anne Klein knit vest, $95 all from Chestnut Lane Boutique. Just Capucci shoes, $245; High Fashion Handbags clutch, $125 both from European Shoe Shop.

RIGHT: Paige Premium Denim jean, $265; Bailey 44 top, $140; Tahari jacket, $718; Hillberg + Berk necklace, $520; Badgley Mischka bag, $450 all from Swank  Boutique. Roberto Capucci sandals, $210 from European Shoe Shop.
