Green Challenge
Local natural bath and body boutique Tiber River Naturals has announced a Green Challenge contest. Owners Adriana De Luca and Michelle Lalonde are asking Tiber River fans to document how Tiber River products are a part of their lives. Submissions should have photos showing the products in the contestant’s home, list the reasons why they opted to buy local and explain which product is their favourite. The grand prize is $1,000 worth of Tiber River goods. The contest closes at the end of September. Visit them at

Dinner with Stephen Lewis
Face the Faces, a gala dinner benefiting Friends of Uganda, is taking place October 25 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Friends of Uganda works with the Stephen Lewis Foundation to help support Ugandan people overcome by the impact of a 20-year civil war, poverty and HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Gracious Golfing
Braving heavy rains, 145 golfers teed off for Health Sciences Centre’s 14th annual Employees’ Charitable Fund golf tournament on Friday, August 22 at Quarry Oaks. Tournament proceeds will purchase special reclining chairs for patients in HSC’s high observation units. The event was sponsored in part by Canadian Footwear. Since its inception in 1988, HSC’s Employees’ Charitable Fund has donated over $2.3 million dollars into the Health Sciences Centre Foundation and other charitable organizations.

Calling all crafters
Bake Bake & Blinkets needs your help for their 2008 Child Awareness Event. Donations of handmade blankets, hats, scarves—anything made with love—and new teddy bears are needed for this event October 4-5 at Assiniboia Downs. The event consists of a large craft and bake sale and silent auction where 100 per cent of the proceeds go towards helping to eradicate child deaths from preventable causes in Africa. The new teddy bears are donated to children in orphanages who are suffering from HIV/AIDS. Alongside the sales, will be a wide variety of children’s charities as well as health and safety information for the public.

Tavern in the Park
Tavern in the Park is taking on new owners and a bit of a new image. As of October 1, WOW! Hospitality Concepts will be taking over the local landmark kitchen. Aiming to reflect its lush surroundings in Assiniboine Park, the new menu will feature environment-friendly food from sustainable sources and use local product wherever possible.
Another WOW! newcomer, Dacquisto restaurant, which offers fine authentic Italian cuisine from executive chef and partner Michael Dacquisto, has also opened for business.
